New Vermont Perennials - SALE

(Sorry, no mail order...) Closed Mondays.  Open every other day - 9 am - 5 pm.  www.amandasgreenhouse.com

I am rebooting my blog to plug my sale of perennials in 4.5 inch pots - three for $10.  These are all new perennials for me and I am planting them now with plans to dig and sell next year for $8.99 each.  I have more than I need for next year, so I can offer surplus plants now at the sale price,  mix and match as you wish.

SILVER STAR DIANTHUS

First there is “Silver Star” dianthus.  My other dianthuses (dianthi ?) overwinter fine here.  I can’t guarantee this one until next spring when we see how the field-grown plants survived.  It has a fragrant double white bloom with a cherry red eye and is deer and drought resistant.

BLUE MARVEL SALVIA

Another new perennial I am trialing  is “Blue Marvel” salvia.  It is a dwarf salvia with large, plump 12-inch high violet blue flowers.  It attracts pollinators and is deer resistant.

RUNNING WITH SCISSORS PHLOX

                                               MCDANIEL's CUSHION  PHLOX

I have two new creeping phlox - Running with Scissors” and “McDaniel’s Cushion.”    “Running with Scissors” is a violet pink and it has that name because the split pedals resemble childrens’ training scissors.  It is fragrant and deer resistant.  "McDaniel’s Cushion" has a bright rose pink bloom and the foliage is more pointy than Scissors.

GRAND PARADE MONARDA

"Grand Parade" Bee Balm is a compact cultivar (12 - 18”) and White Flower Farm describes it as “exceptionally hardy and mildew resistant.”  It has lavender/purple blooms.

MONCH ASTER

“Monch” Aster blooms earlier than fall asters with lavender blue flowers. It grows 2 - 3 feet.

Among the other perennials in the sale are:

Lacy Blue Russian Sage
Echinacea (cone flower) Magnus
Sedum kamtschaticum
Phlox paniculata - Laura
Phlox paniculata - David
Sedum - Autumn Joy
Anemone Pulsatilla
Baptesia
and Sidalcea - Party Girl

Vermont Perennial SALE - $2.50 each

How is it possible that I have gone since March without posting anything?  I see other growers writing just about every day.  I'm simply too busy.  It has slowed down now and I find myself with a surplus of perennials in quart pots.  They have all been overwintered and will bloom this year, but it is next year that they will really show their stuff.

You know the saying about perennials?  "First year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap."  They are creeping now, getting ready to leap.   And they are all on sale for $2.50 each!

I have plenty of one of my favorites - sidalcea.  This is often called a miniature hollyhock.  I started them from seed last year and here's a photo from the seed company.

I use them a lot in bouquets.  We also have echinacea 'magnus' (coneflower), delphiniums, perennial sweet peas, Nora Barlow aquilegia (columbine) and loads more.  Here's a photo of our creeping phlox for sale.

And the Jacob's Ladder on sale is particularly robust.  The pretty foliage is some of the first you see in the spring.

We are open every day EXCEPT for Monday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Daylily (Day Lily) SALE - Three or more - $6 each

Daylily IS one word, but spell check does not agree ... so for those searching, I'll use both approaches.

Once you catch the daylily bug and realize the vast choice of colors and forms, you start to have favorite hybridizers. One of my favorites is Pauline Henry of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.  Her daylilies do wonderfully in northern Vermont.  She registered 490 plants during a period of 37 years and she died in September, 2000, at the age of 92.

I sell ten different 'Siloam' daylilies and have more growing in the fields for future sales.  Here are four of them.

Siloam Double Classic (above) won the 1993 Stout Award,
the highest honor given to any daylily.

Siloam Paul Watts

Siloam Baby Talk

Siloam JeromePillow

I have hundreds of different daylilies,  all large clumps in gallon pots and now all offered at $6 a pot, if you purchase three or more.  And if you want just one, they are still on sale at $6.99 each.

Vermont Daylily Sale

I grow more than 100 varieties of daylilies and they are all sold at the same price, $6.99.  This includes some really special cultivars that initially cost me around $50 a pop.  The season has begun and the sale is on (buy five, get the sixth one free, YOUR choice).  I have found that the price of $6.99 is already a sale compared to many places.  Here are some of the blooms I noticed yesterday.
